I thought about maybe a headline along the lines of “Patterson’s money shot” simply because my sometimes juvenile sense of humor won’t let me forget that CD2 congressional candidate Robert “Bob” Patterson once wrote that “semen-exposed women have better cognitive skills” and that “condom use deprives women of the remarkable chemicals in semen.”

It’s a shame because Patterson, when you meet him, is a likable guy, a bit of a close talker, but a nice guy. Unfortunately, some of his old writings are good for laugh lines to easy to pass on.

That said, once you get past the laugh lines, Patterson has earned a little respect by shockingly raising slightly more than $100,000 in his first fundraising quarter. I honestly didn’t think he had it in him.

Patterson’s respectful 100k means he is no longer an afterthought in next year’s CD2 primary.

And, let’s not forget we do have a new frontrunner in next year’s CD2 primary. David Richter, after posting more than $400,000 this quarter, raised and self-funded, has been attacked as “hoity-toity” by the fancy suit wearing hoity-toity Congressman Jeff Van Drew.

I previously wrote in this blog that “in politics money can buy love and catapults your campaign to frontrunner status,” add to that being the only candidate attacked by Van Drew and there is no doubt Richter has assumed the role of frontrunner ahead of the CD2 primary.

The only question left in CD2, at least for now, is how Brian Fitzherbert responds to his primary election opponents. We know Fitzherbert can build a strong organization, now we’ll see if it converts to fundraising in the fourth quarter.

Note: While Bob has endorsed Brian Fitzherbert for next year’s CD2 primary, Steve is completely neutral and making no endorsement
