PRESS RELEASE: Gustafson Calls On Norcross To Withdraw His Endorsement Of Biden
/Republican candidate for Congress in CD1, Claire Gustafson, is calling on Congressman Donald Norcross to withdraw his endorsement of former Vice President Joe Biden. Her campaign’s press release on the matter follows:
Claire Gustafson, Republican candidate for Congress in New Jersey’s first congressional district, today asked if Congressman Donald Norcross still feels the same about “all sexual assault survivors in South Jersey and across the nation” as he did when he said, “I hear you, I believe you, I share your outrage and I stand with you today and always”?
“During the Senate conformation hearings for Justice Brett Kavanaugh Donald Norcross was quick to come out with a statement supporting Dr. Christine Blasey Ford,” Claire Gustafson said. “Norcross was apparently upset with ‘Senators who denied, disparaged or downplayed the trauma endured by countless victims of sexual assault,’ yet he sits silent as former Vice President Joe Biden, a man Norcross is proud to call a friend, faces a credible claim of sexual assault.”
Gustafson asked, “Where is Norcross’s outrage when his friend is accused of sexual assault? What happened to always sharing the outrage of survivors?”
“It is apparent Norcross only shares the outrage of sexual assault survivors when it is convenient.” Gustafson remarked, “When a sitting Assemblyman was forced to resign after it was discovered he was arrested for a domestic incident, Norcross spoke the right words and said the Assemblyman did the right thing by resigning, but after it was discovered that Assemblyman remained an employee of Camden County and was transferred to a new job Norcross was silent. Despite Camden County Republicans repeatedly raising the issue Norcross has not broken his silence.”
“Putting politics aside, as a woman, as a wife, as a mother and as a grandmother I am offended by Congressman Norcross’s selective outrage when it comes to the mistreatment of women,” Gustafson said. “As a woman who happens to be a victim and a candidate for Congress I think it is time for Donald Norcross to truly share in the outrage of survivors of sexual assault and immediately withdraw his endorsement of Joe Biden for President.”
