PRESS RELEASE: Donald Norcross Caused This $578 Million Headache
/Republican candidate for Congress in CD1, Claire Gustafson, took a swing at Congressman Donald Norcross over a recent ProPublica report on the Camden tax break scandal. Gustafson’s press release on the matter follows:
Claire Gustafson, Republican candidate for Congress in New Jersey’s first congressional district, upon learning Governor Phil Murphy’s administration has put $578 million in tax breaks on hold said, “The entire Economic Development Authority tax incentive scandal lies at Donald Norcross’s feet.”
“Now we learn a dozen companies have had their tax credits put on hold and are under investigation. No matter how much he spins it this scandal is owned by Donald Norcross,” Claire Gustafson said.
Gustafson continued, “It was Norcross who in February 2014 when he first ran for Congress, proudly proclaimed he ‘led the charge on getting the Economic Opportunity Act passed into law’ and promised it was ‘a game-changing law that will help create thousands of jobs in our region.’ Apparently, the only thing Donald’s game-changing law did was help folks connected to South Jersey’s political machine that happens to be led by the Norcross family.”
“Since at least February Donald Norcross has been trying to downplay his role in creating the law that created this mess. He’s obviously embarrassed folks connected to him have been caught with their hands in the cookie jar,” Gustafson said. “Embarrassment is part of the price one pays when they fight to pass a law designed to benefit one’s friends and family. I’m not going to let him get away with downplaying it and will continue to ask where the thousands of jobs Donald Norcross promised his law would deliver for our region are.”
